Applique is NOT like riding a bike…
At least it isn’t for me. I haven’t ridden a bike in a couple of years but I could hop on one right now and cruise like a pro. Not so with applique. It’s only been several weeks since I last appliqued but I was all thumbs when I picked up my first “sprigs” block. I prepped this block last weekend and had the presence of mind to stick it in my purse before we headed off to a family wedding on Saturday. When we ran into an hour long traffic jam I pulled out Sprigs 1 and stitched down the stems. Did I mention I was the passenger, not the driver? Anyway, it was a very relaxing (and productive!) way to pass the time. But, I am a s-l-o-w stitcher.
I also put together a couple more stars blocks today. After looking at the six I’ve done so far, I can see it’s time to stop using pink.
So beautiful!! Love this block the fabrics, everything about it! I have just found your blog from somewhere, you know how it is! I will be back, so Hi from me in New Zealand 🙂
It doesn't look like you forgot how to applique to me! I love your blocks so far. It will be a great quilt!
I try to applique a little bit everyday to keep my hands in the applique mode. But really it doesn't matter how long it takes and your work is lovely,
Hi Taryn
Love your stars and that gorgeous little gold leaf. I find that applique exercises my eyes or should I say trains them to focus on points. It helps them but takes a while to get used to.
Cheers
Lynne
I can post now 🙂
once your hands and fingers get warmed up , you'll be right back to full speed.
the block looks great and so do the stars!
Hi Taryn – Love the sprig block – beautiful fabrics!
I agree with applique. I do a lot of it but if I don't do any for a couple of weeks, I find it takes a while for me to get going again.
Your stars look lovely.
i can't find any complaints with your work, looks as though pedalled just fine, fast or slow….
Your block is beautiful. I love the creative use of fabrics. And your stitching looks awesome to me…you are very good.
The stars are looking good!!!! wahoo!
Lovely blocks! Your applique looks great to me! I was just thinking I need to remember to bring some hand work to my guild meeting tomorrow. That's how things get done for me – a bit here and a bit there!
Love it Taryn..your applique looks very perfect to me..it's going to be a stunning quilt..
I love this block, the fussy cutting looks great. I guess everyone has their own personal cruising speed. I bet you'll have sped up by the end of this project.
Well, bike it might not be, but your applique block looks ok to me 🙂
What a pretty block. I just love your fabric choices. If you enjoy the stitching the speed doesn't matter much. I am pokey at everything sewing-wise, but that's my speed!
This applique block is a beauty–both workmanship and fabric choices.
Both star blocks look good, but I love the rich colors of the second one.
I feel the same way about hand quilting it takes me a while to get back in the rhythm you need to get those nice even stitches…love your blocks!!!!
I hope to start soon! now that I see your first applique block I want to go start right now…

Speed doesn't matter – your applique' block is SO beautiful! I love your fabric choices too.
Slow stitcher or not, your work is very lovely and it shows! What a great applique block.
I'm kind of like that too when I leave the sewing room….say for most of the summer! It seems to take me a while to get back into the swing of things 😀 😀
Love your start blocks too!
